A note on gold filled vs. gold plated, since the two get mixed up a lot: gold filled means a solid, bonded layer of real karat gold — legally at least 1/20th of the total weight — mechanically applied to a base metal, not just a thin plated finish. That makes it far more durable and gives it genuine, tangible gold value.)
